The
Baby
Michael Story
On
The baby was that of a Caucasian male with a
full head of dark hair. The baby was found in a large black plastic bag. The
bag also contained the placenta and other evidence of the crime.
The Autopsy revealed that the baby was born
alive, was less than 24 hours old at the time of death and weighed 7 1/2
pounds. The cause of death was blunt force trauma to the head and chest. The
Toxicology report on the baby revealed no drugs or alcohol in the baby's system.
We currently have the mother's DNA profile
entered into a national database called CODIS ( Combined DNA Index System ).
Also recovered was a brown pubic hair believed to be that of the mother of the
baby.
Local newspapers and television coverage of the
incident generated numerous telephone calls concerning pregnant women that
lived in the area. All leads received have been investigated, the women
mentioned have been cleared.
Shortly after finding the baby, it was
determined the baby needed a name. Kathleen WATTS of the Cumberland County
Sheriff's Office Criminal Intelligence Section contacted the appropriate
agencies and received permission to name the baby. It was decided to name the
baby "Michael" after Saint Michael, patron saint of Law Enforcement.
Since that time this has become known as the "Baby Michael" case.
March 3, 2001 will be the two - year
anniversary of the discovery of "Baby Michael".
