The mission of the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office (CCSO) is to maintain a high quality of life for all residents and visitors of Cumberland County. We have adopted a philosophy of Community Oriented Law Enforcement working in partnership with citizens to develop policing services to meet the unique needs of the community, while assuring fairness, equal treatment, and protection to all.
The CCSO Bomb Squad consists of a group of five part-time members who are FBI Certified Bomb Technicians. The mission of the Bomb Squad is to save lives and protect property from the illicit use of explosive devices.
The operational objectives of the Bomb Squad are to:
- Render safe and/or remove suspected improvised explosive devices, incendiary devices, explosives, explosive chemicals (as currently defined by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms (BATF), and pyrotechnics.
- Provide for the legal, proper and safe transportation, disposal, or storage of explosives and other items referred to in “1” above.
- Assist in post-blast crime scene investigations, collection and preservation of evidence and provide technical support to special operations (i.e.; special response team, dignitary protection, etc.)
