Reserve Platoon

R-Platoon consists of a group of volunteer deputies that have attended and successfully completed the North Carolina Basic Law Enforcement Training on their own time.  The classes consist of both night and weekend training and take about nine months to fully complete.  These deputies have taken and passed all required state exams. Platoon deputies receive the same in-service training and equipment issue that all Sheriff's Office deputies receive.  The platoon is divided into four squads and rotate working a minimum of one weekend per month.  Their primary responsibility is to provide funeral escorts on weekends and holidays and to assist the Patrol Division answering calls as needed.  In addition R-Platoon deputies assist the Sex Offender Registration Unit.

R-Platoon is a diverse group of volunteers ranging from a Captain with the Fayetteville Fire Department, a Senior Information Technologist at Fort Bragg, a Juvenile Court Counselor with the Department of Juvenile Justice, full time and retired members of the US Army, retired Deputies from the Sheriff's Office, a Technical Operations Supervisor with Time Warner Cable and the Goodyear Tire Company.
