Homicide Unit

Investigating a homicide is both an art and a science, a blend of the practical and the scientific.  Without that realization, and that blend which includes a coordinated effort by a team of specialists, the chance of a successful case solution is greatly diminished.

The Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office Homicide Unit is a team of highly trained specialists who are dedicated and entrusted with the profound duty and responsibility of investigating all deaths attributed to Homicide. The Homicide Unit also investigates deaths that are suspicious in nature, along with all child and infant deaths. The Homicide Unit can, at the discretion of the Sheriff, Chief Deputy, Chief of Detectives or Assistant Chief of Detectives, be assigned to investigate specific incidents and/or assignments of a sensitive nature.
