The inmate property is inventoried at booking and placed into self seal, tamper resistant plastic bags. In most cases this makes it unnecessary for jail staff to further handle an inmate’s personal property. After an inmate’s cash has been accepted, it is placed in the inmate’s account available to the inmate to purchase commissary items and for other purposes. Any unused funds are returned to the inmate upon discharge from custody. Before leaving the booking room, inmates are required to exchange personal clothing for jail clothing. Their personal clothing is bagged and stored securely until their release. Questions regarding such property should be directed to the arresting agency. Inmates receive basic hygiene items free of charge when first entering custody.
