Requirements

Deputy Sheriff / Detention Officer

  • United States Citizen

  • 21 Years of age or older

  • Minimum Education achieving a High School Diploma or GED

  • Clean Criminal Record

  • Valid North Carolina Driver's License

  • Certified copy of Birth Certificate

  • Social Security Card

  • Copy of Military Discharge (DD-214), member 4 copy if applicable

  • Live within a 40 mile radius of the Cumberland County Sheriff's Office

  • Be able to pass a comprehensive background investigation which may include written test, interviews, reference checks, psychological screening, medical exam, polygraph examination and drug screen.

  • Be able to pass a North Carolina State Certification Course exam

  • Deputy Sheriff's Applicants must be able to successfully complete a Job Related Physical Abilities Test
